If you are looking to buy a treadmill, there are a couple things you need to look out for. This is to make sure your investment doesn't end up being a total waste of money. I strongly encourage you to ensure that the treadmill you are looking to buy has these two features.

AC/DC

The Secret of Knowing How to Buy a Treadmill

When I say AC/DC, I am not talking about the Australian Rock n' Roll band, I'm simply referring to the two types of motor your treadmill can have. Before you buy a treadmill, you have to consider what type of motor you should get. The majority of the home treadmill units run on a DC motor. Commercial treadmills on the other hand may run on either AC or DC motors.

The problem with treadmills that run on an AC motor is that they need a power supply that is able to cope with the demands of such a motor. The reason for this is that they draw a lot more power and electricity compared to the more conservative DC motor.

Another problem AC motors give is that they can't shut up. Ok, I actually mean that AC motors are pretty noisy, especially when compared to a DC motor. So it would be more advisable to buy a treadmill that runs on a DC motor.

The Good Old Speed Range

An important feature to look out for when you're looking to buy a treadmill is to check out on the maximum and minimum speed it can go to. But before you do so, you need to ask yourself a little question. Why am I getting a treadmill? What am I going to use the treadmill for? Fine, that was two questions but you get what I mean right?

You need to know whether you want to use your treadmill just to walk on or a full fledged run. If you want one just to walk on, then there isn't much point in getting one which goes up to a fairly high speed of say may be 10 mph. A range of 0 - 6 mph is enough.

However, if you are looking to buy a treadmill for running purposes then its best to ensure it goes up to about 10 - 12 mph. This is more so if you want to train for an even because you would want to be able to push your limits as far as you can right?

Well then, if you make sure you get these 2 things right, then you shouldn't really go wrong when you actually go to buy a treadmill.
