Andis hair dryers are sold in large numbers and remain a popular appliance. But, with so many new technical advances being made in recent years and with so many brands now on offer, has Andis kept pace, or has it fallen behind. The answer is, yes and no.

Andis is an American manufacture that has been making hair care products longer than most. What's really nice about this company is that it has not abandoned its roots; it continues to design and make hair dryers in its plant near to where it first started manufacturing its original appliances.

A Review Of Andis Hair Dryers - Are They Any Good?

While this is to be applauded, has the company lost the edge to newer, trendier, designer blow dryers? Well, in some ways it has, but in others it continues to be a leading manufacturer. Here's a quick overview on what's currently on offer.

Are you one of those who hate the way your hair dryer gets in the way of everything else on top of your vanity? A wall mounted appliance is perfect for decluttering your vanity, but if you've ever tried looking for one, you'll have noticed how few companies actually make them. Well, Andis are well known as a manufacturer of wall mounted dryers, for both hotel and domestic use. If you've ever stayed in a hotel and liked using the wall mounted dryer you found in the bathroom, chances are it was an Andis.

The best thing about the 'HangUp' collection of Andis hair dryers is that they are solidly built - the wall mounting is made of metal. Also, they're cheap but that doesn't mean that you have to forgo on the latest technology. Many of them are ionic, which means they produce lots of negative ions that have been proved to cut down drying time and help improve the look and condition of hair.

If there are any negative points it would have to be that many of them look decidedly old fashioned, lacking the contoured, ergonomic designs of other brands. Also, the motor size on most of the models is only 1600 watts - most 'professional' appliances come with 1800 watts of power, minimum however, the HD-9 Euro HangUp does come with 1875 watt motor and a contoured handle. Another let down is that they don't come with a cool shot button.

But, all in all, the Andis HangUp range of dryers offers great choice, from motor size, portability, speed and heat setting and price.

As mentioned previously, many of the company's blow dryers incorporate the latest technology such as ionic, ceramic and tourmaline. The Andis Tourmaline Ionic Nano Ceramic Hair Dryer is a very good appliance. It comes with a large, AC motor, 4 heat and speed setting, cool shot button and 3 attachments: ceramic diffuser, concentrator and pick. It's biggest plus is its price, which is substantially lower than many of its competitors.

There's very little to say against this appliance, but if there are any it would be that it isn't the lightest on the market or the quietest, however it isn't the heaviest or loudest either.

The latest advance in dryer technology has to be the incorporation of nano-silver technology. Basically, this technology kills 99% of bacteria found on the appliance, which in turn helps to keep it clean as well as keeping your hair clean. Again, the company makes a dryer using this technology - many top brands still don't.

The Andis Nano-Silver Tourmaline Ceramic Hair Dryer offers fantastic value for money. It comes with a 1875 watt motor, 4 heat/speed settings and cool shot button. You can pay over twice the amount for another comparable appliance. However, if it does have a minus point it would have to be the lack of any attachments - if you like diffusers, picks or brushes, then you're going to have to look at another brand.

Andis do make excellent hair dryers and they receive many high ratings in consumer reviews. While, they may be slightly retro in look and some models may lack some features that come as standard in other dryers, there's no denying that the company makes a very broad range of well-built appliances at very good prices.
